Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very good digital tuner
I bought this because we needed a tuner for our projector in the media room. It works very good (not great). It's connected via component cable not HDMI. The tuner is a little slowing in changing stations but the quality of the digital picture is very good. Recording is very simple. I would recommend it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent product - minor issues
I've had this recorder/tuner about a month. I use it with my low definition Sony projection TV and attached a UHF antenna, no cable or satellite. That's why I got the built-in tuner. Also attached my VCR.
For what it does, this unit works very well. Good tuning, good recording, good playing with DVD or external VCR. Good copying from the air, or VCR to DVD. I can't test the upconverion feature since I don't have High Def TV.
I have 2 minor issues with the unit: The remote can't be programmed at all. It would be nice if I could turn on my TV and control the volume at least. Also the printing on the remote is gray on black. Very hard to see especially in dim light, and the print is small.
That's it. I recommended to a friend the model 410 without tuner since he has cable.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - love that TOSHIBA
I needed to replace a defective dvd recorder that I have had since 2004. After a extended search, I decided on the TOSHIBA DR560. I am overjoyed with my selection! It has preformed every function I have asked of it, flawlessly. The only function that I miss from my former machine, is the flexible record function. This allowed me to fit the recording to the time left on the disc. Other than that, I would purchase the DR560 all over again. I recommend it highly!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - it is a good product when it works
When the unit is working I am quite happy with it. The digital tuner pulls in HD TV signal and the recordings are crisp and sharp. The only problem is that every now and then the recorder will "hung up" like a computer. The picture is either scrambled or flashes. At this point the only way to get the unit to get out of this "mode" is to unplug it and let it restart. So far it has always recovered.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A Gorgeous Picture...Just a Bit Noisy!
Once I finally figured out how to use this wonderful, easy-to-program DVD recorder, I bought two more, one for every TV in the house. I do NOT have cable or satellite, just an attic antenna to receive Over-The_Air shows. OTA is free TV and is all you need these days since most OTA stations have back channels as well.
A tech savvy friend hooked it up for me with a splitter so I can record anything on one channel while also watching another channel on the same TV. The picture quality is pure, wonderful HDTV whether watching TV or watching the recorded DVDs, even if they were recorded in Extended Long Play mode (8 hours of recording.) I simply needed something that worked like a VCR since I time shift all my television watching -- and this is perfect. I use DVD-R blank DVDs to record up to 8 hours and simply toss them when they're watched since they cost less than 17 cents apiece. Guess I'll try DVD-RW someday, but I'm happy with this plan now.
Oh, the noise? For some reason the slot motor that slides out the DVD carrier makes a sound like a dying moose when it opens and closes. You're sure it is just about to quit totally, but it always chugs right along. This is the ONLY complaint about an otherwise sterling product!

CHICAGO (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama named former rival Hillary Clinton as secretary of state on Monday and said Robert Gates would remain defense secretary in a national security team charged with recasting America's leadership role in the world.

How the Honeycrisp apple went from being nearly discarded to one of the tastiest best-named apples of all time -- NYTimes says "the iPod of apples" -- and more about the patenting and branding of apples.
"[D]uring its time of evaluation, Honeycrisp, being a beautiful but partially-colored apple, effectively waited in the wings until the big stage was set. I'm not saying the University would not have introduced Honeycrisp against the tide of Red and Golden. I don't know that. It just takes years to get to the point of taking the leap, and maybe 1991 would have been the leaping point regardless of the current. But there's no doubt Honeycrisp jumped into a very favorable current, one that had been started with Granny Smith and had gained irreversible momentum with Gala and Fuji. Its time had come.

But even when your time has come, if you're an apple, it'll still be a while. There are millions of Honeycrisp trees in the ground right now, but a production ranking is nowhere in sight. Like Gala, Honeycrisp will take a few more years before it climbs out of the "All Others" category.

So, if you're David Bedford, and you evaluated a variety for many years until 1991 and then released it, and it's been out now for well over a decade and it's still in "All Others," you've done a wonderful job. That's just the speed of this game. Honeycrisp is on a meteoric rise. This is a thing that's happening very fast, in apple terms."

A new SDN article delves into the related commands.
