Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - TiVo - Love / Hate Relationship
Ok - here goes !
First - The Love:
* TiVo's best feature- its great being able to watching programs on "your" schedule and not the "TV program" schedule.
* Skipping thru the junk and commercials is heaven.
You can watch 2 or 3 programs using TiVo in the same time you watch
one live show.
* Menus are easy to use and it's "smart" ! TiVo can find your programs, advise if you have recording conflicts, has a program recommendation feature based on your preferences, can download movies from Amazon and Netflix, watch You Tube, and a whole list of great feature that is growing.
* Dual channel HD is very nice and Tivo is addictive !
It will drive you nuts to have to watch a "live" program once your use to Tivo and you will soon be buying another unit once the other family members horde in on "your TiVo" - lol.

Now the Hate:
* DO NOT purchase the lifetime subscription service !!
Unless you're a addicted gambler or a fool - there is a very very good chance you will be parted from a huge (400.00) chunk of your wallet. The service subscription is for the life of the "unit" and
--- TiVo reliability is abysmal !!! ---
Some research on diff web forums as well as TiVo's 30 day replacement (no charge) and 1 yr limited replacement (min of 40.00 charge) will attest to the this.
* I bought 2 TiVo HD units and both have failed in the first year. I have read a lot of reviews about folks having units for years with no problems - but beware..
there are also a LOT of units that have had problems, been replaced multiple times, and or just become useless after the 1 year limited warranty is up.
* And if you are thinking - Wow what a great rebate !
O-boy... another disaster ! Several calls to customer service, rebate service, tech service, and the janitor and you may finally get it. Let me know cause I'm still waiting.

As much as I love the Tivo when its working,
I would not recommend this unit to anyone due to very lousy warranty and reliability. And PLEASE don't get sucked into buying a "lifetime" Tivo subscription unless you like just love to gamble or waste money !!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I love Tivo
I have been a tivo user for a couple of years now. It is so nice to have a tivo with both HD and tons of storage space. The worse thing about the cable DVR was the limited space when you watch HD. I no longer have to watch everthing in a week. Now I need one for the other room, so I can transfer the HD recording.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Tivi HD XL
I recently purchased the TiVo TCD658000 HD XL DVR and have found it to do what TiVo says it will. The best part is being able to record a program and transfer it to my computer for storage. There are down sides, any HD program more than a half hour has not transferred in full yet. Half Hour show has worked. Other downsides are that you cannot tell how much room you have left on the 1TB hard drive, having to pay for the TIVO service and getting advertisements on the menu screen and the price of the TiVo unit.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Wonderful !!
My new Tivo HD-XL has saved the day! I still use an 8300HD for my cable channels but thanks to Amazon & Tivo, I now I have a recorder dedicated to over-the-air HD recording and the quality could not be better! Since I work nights it is not unusual for me to want to record up four shows at the same time (I rarely watch live TV) and at lease for this TV Junkie {me} - this Tivo is a must have! Sure, it has not solved my problem of finding the time to watch everything but having up to 150 hours of HD available, well let's just say I am in heaven!

The build quality is superb and the unit is nice and quiet. I also really appreciate the ability to put the Tivo in Standby mode which I am sure will extend the life of the unit considerably. I've only owned the unit for a few weeks now but looking back I don't know how I survived without it. Broadcast TV meets most of my needs so I don't have to fuss with cable-cards but it is nice to know that the option is always there. Another benefit is that the Tivo shares the load with my 8300HD and because the bulk of my recording is done on the Tivo, my 8300HD is much less buggy - no more lost or cable-glitched recordings.

I give the Tivo HD XL my highest recommendation!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tivo HD XL
I was just about to purchase a Tivo HD when the product announcement came out about this unit. I was a bit hesitant because of the price, buying a tivo HD with the external drive, it is cheaper. But this has a much larger capacity. I figured I would kick myself over the $200 difference eventually. So I pulled the trigger. I couldn't be happier. Installation went without a hitch. Charter cable came in 3 days, with a M-card. Put it in and called it in. Bingo. All the channels. No problems.
Now that I have had it for a month or so it is Awesome. I never watched that much HD tv before since my old Tivo was just standard. Pretty much everything I watch is in HD now. Finally I realize why I paid all that money for my big TV. The Tivo service is as good as ever. This is my 3rd Tivo over that last 8 years, all with lifetime and all still running well in my house. The original series one upgraded is now my kids. It is kind of fun seeing what teenagers will watch and we all enjoy a lot of it together
The new Tivo now Knows me and is recording all kinds of suggestions. The beauty is that it is recording many many suggestions in HD. So if I can't find something to watch that I chose I can peruse the HD section. I currently have all of my recorded shows, plus over 200 suggestions of which over 30 are in HD, and the drive isn't close to full yet.
All in all I give it 3 thumbs up!

The economic crisis gives IT managers a chance to take advantage of what might be a once-in-a-career buyer's market. Here's how to make sure you don't miss out.

Financial apocalypse be damned! The Shanghai Tower, set to reach a whopping 632 meters by the time it's completed, broke ground over the weekend. With its zenith a full 140 meters higher than the Mori Building (currently the world's highest observatory), it'll grab the honors of the tallest building in China.

The Shanghai Tower is organized as nine cylindrical buildings stacked one on top of the other with a double-skinned layer on the outside. The outside layer is triangular shaped and swivels as it reaches upwards. Designed by San Francisco-firm Gensler, the tower plans on accommodating offices, a luxury hotel, nine sky-gardens and various retail and cultural venues, as well as a new Shanghai Metro stop.

A lot of folks over here are saying that no matter how bad the current economic situation might get, the chances of this project losing funding is very slim. Ironically, this is probably due to the Mori Building, whose own construction was halted in its tracks by the Asian Financial Crisis—even if The Shanghai Tower turns out to be a money loser, there's no way the Chinese would've stood for having a Japanese building dominate their soil.
