Editorial Review:

Product DescriptionThe concept of home-theater is very enticing. Sony has aligned this sound system to be compatible with their popular Bravia widescreen TV line. Yet, it will still deliver fine performance with most other HDTV sets on the market. As a leader in products with HDMI connectivity, Sony has created BRAVIA Theater Sync to go beyond simple audio and video transmission. When combined with a select number of BRAVIA Televisions and other Sony audio and video products, in addition to audio and video transmission, control functions will be transmitted via the HDMI cable. With ?One Touch Play,? operations that took several steps have been reduced to one. Press the PLAY button on the remote, watch the audio and/or the video component(s) turn on with the BRAVIA and switch to correct input. This model also includes an iPod dock for playthrough. HDMI - Reads the data on a standard DVD at 480P and maximizes the video resolution to best fit your HDMI compatible TV at up to 720p or 1080i XM Connect-and-Play Ready A World of digital radio is at your fingertips. Connect the optional Connect-and-Play antenna, sign up for XM service (subscription rate required) and enjoy the variety of digital radio with superior sound quality Digital Media Port (DMP) offers compatibility with various accessories which will include a PC Client device, Bluetooth receiver and Audio Docking Stations compatible with Network Walkman(R) and iPod products. Sony's DIGITAL MEDIA PORT grants access, provides control and integrates your portable music into a traditional home theater system iPod is not included

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nice unit but could use more Bass
This is a really nice unit except that it lacks some deeper bass. I have a Sonly 46" XBR LCD and it works perfect with the Theatre sync button. You have to turn the unit way up to get a good sound but again if it had more bass it would be a perfect system. I see these units at Sears for $499 so the price is good here. Can't beat it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Home Theater System! But Beware on Wireless
Bought this home theater a few months ago, and this is a great system. When I purchased the system, I wanted the wireless kit for the rear speakers. (So that I didn't have wires running across the living room floor) I was told that any of the wireless systems would work. WRONG! Found out that the Sony system has "proprietary" plugs at the end of the speaker wires and would only fit in the Sony Wireless kit for Rear Speakers. Sure the other systems would work, but you have to snip the plugs off the end of the speaker wires, and this voids your Sony warranty. Just a "heads up" for anyone thinking of buying this home theater.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great bang for your buck!!
I reseached for a while before deciding on this unit for our TV room and I haven't been disappointed. Sound is great and HDMI to TV makes for awesome movie watching in surround sound. Connectivity is a drawback in terms of there not being enough higher end connections if having game systems and such..but worked for me. Only other hurdle was rear speakers which come with special Sony connectors to the back of the unit. I had already installed speaker wire into the wall before buying the system which meant I had to soder/heat shrink to be able to use connectors. Worked out great.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Bravo, Bravia!
I've had other home theater systems (less expensive) but this one definitely fits the bill! If you put out money for the Bravia HDTV, you definitely want your sound to match. This will do it nicely. As always, you have the choice of floor stands or wall mounting (the latter is my preference).

Now, if I could just find someone who understands why my Blu-ray player can't seem to recognize the system correctly, even though it sends the sound there. The self test of the speakers for the Panasonic player only seems to recognize the two tall front speakers -- no others. Sigh.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Big Bang for the buck!
This is my 2nd sound system. My first was a Pioneer with serious Polk Audio speakers. That system cost me well over $1200 when all was said and done. To be honest, this Bravia system, which I got from Amazon for $349, is as good, if not better than that system. And, as far as Home Theater "in a box" setups go, this system is reasonably expandable. You might need a switcher or two if you have several devices to hook up, but I am extremely pleased with the sound quality that I get.

I've heard it said by Dave Winer and many many others: if only Dean had reinvested half the money raised into the Internet, then ...

OK, so you're the Dean Campaign Chief Information Officer in August 2003. The money starts to roll in. $20 million over six months, $2-4 million per month.

What would you spend the money on?

  1. What does your monthly budget look like?
  2. What is your application and infrastructure portfolio?
  3. How much will you allocate to maintenance?
  4. You're building from scratch, so what problems do you hope to avoid through wise architecture?
  5. What are your big milestones?
  6. Who are your key vendors?

How do you spend in consonance with the campaign strategy?

  1. How will you use the Internet to bring offline voters into the campaign at the same numbers as radio or television broadcasts?
  2. What is your online strategy for responding to attack ads and opposition pundits in radio, television and print?
  3. Online community takes time to build and is very hard to organize geographically. What will you do to match the state-by-state primary schedule?
  4. What can you do with online services to serve the campaign in caucus states?
  5. You are preparing for Bush to launch in Spring 2004. What are your countermeasures to reach out to moderate Republicans online while the GOP uses its advanced voter email systems to barrage 200 million validated email addresses?
  6. How will you lower the cost-per-vote vs. the GOP?

After 17 grueling months, Swiss adventurer Louis Palmer's around-the-world trip in a solar-powered car is finally over. Altogether, he traveled 32,000 miles and across 40 countries.

Palmer, who touched down at UN climate change talks in Poznan, Poland, said the feat proved that solar power was a viable alternative to carbon-based fuel sources. Though to do what Palmer did, you'd need to drive a tiny three-wheeler tugging along a solar array almost as big as the car itself.

While the car probably needs a major redesign (and perhaps some more solar panel breakthroughs) to even inch close to becoming a regular on highways, it did disclose some promising technology. The car reached 55mph speeds and could travel for 300km on a single charge. Through the 17 months on almost non-stop driving, it only broke down twice.

Though this car's adventure is over, Palmer's not ready to give up eco-driving yet. He's planning a trip with six vehicles around the world in 80 days (ha!) that would draw power from hydro, geothermal and wind energy. [BBC]
