Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Micro$oft... and thats all...
Its a computer O/S... i really dont like it but because Microsoft is so common and well supported i guess it will have to do... wann hint get a good book and buy linux it wont crash as much... it only gets 2 stars because it has so many programs that work with it.... Its my opinion that this O/S is not worth even 5 cents.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - BUGS BUGS BUGS
OS upgrades stink. I resisted the upgrade to 98 because I knew it would be a pain in the rear. It was and is... half the time I can't even boot. I was fine until I did the stupid upgrade.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Olympus c4040 download incapability
I worked for almost 2 hours with a microsoft technician over the telephone however software would not download the digital image into the pc. Olympus comes with the Camedia Master 2.5 software. I was told that the Windows 98 upgrade for the Windows 95 includes all the drivers necessary to work in conjunction with Camedia. However my discussion with the technician at Olympus says that Camedia only works with Windows 98 2nd Edition. I would appreciate any feedback.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pretty Good Upgrade.
This software package is supposed to be the improved version of Windows 95, true it is reliable but there are no new features that jump right out at you, I upgraded my home PC from Windows 95b to 98SE because of constant freezes in 95 and for the most part I have been pretty satisfied with it's performance. it does include newer versions of Internet Explorer and it has a better driver database but other than that it's ok. If you are using 95a or 95b, I recommend that you buy this upgrade it will have your system running better with new utilities and it will be easier for you to install hardware with the new drivers database. The memory requirements according to Microsoft.com say 24mb, but I recommend 32 and up the more you have the faster it will run.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not for the feint of heart
If you have an older or tempermental computer, beware of this program. If you have no computer skills, have a friend at your side during this process which could last several hours.

My brave little Pentium I froze when the program tried to load for the first time. After trying to reboot about 10 times or so, I put in the back up disk and read the "readme.txt." It provided me with good suggestions on how to deal with the problem.

I had to start for the first time in safe mode and then rebooted in normal mode. This worked for me, but it took more rebooting to get the entire program up and running.

Also the instruction book suggests backing up all your filed prior to installation. I would recommend this if nothing else than for peace of mind should your computer react poorly to the program.

It could take an hour to load the program or it could take all day with troubleshooting. Be prepared to be frustrated. Make sure you have the time and try not to hurt yourself or your computer in the process.

Java Entrepreneur

Sun Microsystems has announced plans to cut between 5,000 and 6,000 jobs — that's between 15 and 18 percent of its workforce.

"It blamed the cuts on the global economic downturn, but I think that like many other companies, Sun is using the downturn as an excuse for what were pre-existing problems, foretold by its stock price, which seems to be in an unending swoon," suggests GigaOM's Om Malik.

"How much has Sun spent to develop Solaris or Java?" asks InfoWorld's Neil McAllister. "How much must it continue to invest in maintaining other products, which, despite being open source, have no appreciable development community? To say these products are not loss leaders suggests something akin to Hollywood accounting."

The answer? "Spin off Java," McAllister added in a later post. "Just get rid of it — farm it out to an industry consortium and let the companies that depend upon it manage it..."
