Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - ESET NOD32 Antivirus
Have used ESET NOD32 Antivirus v3.0 for a month on my desktop PC running Windows Vista64 SP1. NOD32 AV v3.0 contains integrated antivirus and antispyware components built in. Previous antivirus programs were Norton Antivirus and then Shield Deluxe. Neither worked well on my PC. ESET NOD32 installed with no problems and has not caused any strange behavior with other software. The best characteristics of this antivirus program are: 1. Operating System compatibility (interfaces well with Vista Defender) while using little system resources; 2. Speed is outstanding. I use a Dial-up ISP for internet use. Even the online updates are very fast and unobtrusive; 3. Unobtrusive during PC usage whether online or not. For me the user interface is easy to use and intuitive. I highly recommend this product.

A word of advice when istalling any new AV software: Remove all previous AV programs completely, then reboot machine prior to initiating a new AV install. Never have more than one AV program installed on one machine.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - ESET Antivirus should be called ESET Virus
Signed up for the free 30 trial of the total package, ESET Smart Security. After 10 days of use it eliminated some malware, etc. on the 2 full scans I ran. Last night I was checking emails and a big red warning came up saying it had blocked an attempt to access my system. I closed out of the email and hit my IE icon and my home page had been hijacked. Now I can only access limited internet accounts (the ones the spyware/virus leads me to), programs have disappeared, the My Computer icon has vanished, cannot access system restore, the C drive is no longer accessible, and on and on and on. Fortunately, the ESET icon is available and I ran 3 full in-depth system scans and it didn't pick up ANYTHING! If you want to waste your money, buy this product.

If you enjoy buying a new plasma TV and not having a picture for 3 years, buy this product. If you have any common sense, stay as far away as possible from ESET and any of their anti-virus products. NOTE: After emailing tech support at ESET they replied that antivirus support will be available to me when I purchase the product, and its not available during the free trial. What a great sales tool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Buen Antivirus
Hasta el momento no tengo ninguna queja sobre este producto es muy eficiente en cuanto a los virus que aparecen dia a dia, me siento muy confiado al tenerlo instalado en mis computadoras.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Works behind the scenes, much better than better-known competitors
I've had a very positive experience with this software:

Pros:
- Scans are quick
- Uses few systems resources while in the background
- Profiles are updated very often by vendor
- I've had no virus problems while running this software
- No software tentacles, unlike antivirus "big names"

Cons:
- Simple configuration is easy, complex configuration is buried in a menu tree

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Absolutely the best Antivirus without a shadow of a doubt.
I'm sorry that this is long, but I love this product.

I'm the kind of user who never gets viruses, spyware or adware. I'm also the kind of user who likes his system to be as fast as possible (I built my own, and I have an E8400 overclocked to 4.0GHz on air with 2GB of mushkin 996533 RAM - it's dual channel 800MHz DDR2. The memory is at stock for now.) Before installing NOD32, I had just 22-23 services running while idle (23 if wmiprvse.exe is running). Yeah, I'm crazy like that. I'd have less services, but I'm at the point where there is not a single service I can disable without something going wrong. :) After installing it, I have just 2 more services (so 23-24). One of them takes up about 35.12MB, and the other takes up about 1.92MB.

Now, I have Comcast High-Speed Internet, so I can have McAfee's latest Antivirus for free. But I hate it. It slows my computer down way too much and I end up with over 40 processes. McAfee Antivirus couldn't be more annoying! So, I figured that since I never get infections anyway that I'd just uninstall it and have my system back to normal.

Then I heard about NOD32.

Installation was a pleasure. Setup was a pleasure (I love the Advanced Setup Tree). Now, when I install something, I always go through every last option before I even use it. Just so you know how customizable NOD32 Antivirus 3.0 is, I think it took me over 15 minutes to customize it! lol But I enjoyed every minute of it. After I finished customizing it, I ran a Custom Scan and made sure that my memory was scanned as well as both HDD's. It took 9 minutes and 30 seconds. Yeah.

It also receives updates quite frequently (it seems like it's almost every day). That is really, really nice and really comforting. Really.

----Here's what I like the most about it----

Even though I don't need it, I'm keeping it installed. Why? Not because I paid for it, but because I don't feel a difference with it installed. Granted, there is a slight difference, but I don't mind it one bit, and it's VERY easy for me to forget that it's even installed! But that was definitely not the case with McAfee. It was like trying to walk around with a 100-pound backpack on. But NOD32 is like walking around with a 5 or 10-pound backpack, or perhaps a 15-pound backpack for you stronger people!

I am so extremely happy that I can have virus protection and spyware protection without my system being slowed down - especially considering that I personally do not need it. As I said, I never get infections of any kind. And at random times over the past year, I've installed spyware removal programs and also adware removal programs in addition to McAfee just to do a scan, but I never find infections. I just don't put my system at risk. It's not that I purposely avoid putting it at risk, but it's just the way I use a computer.

So, it is a real pleasure to finally have the best of BOTH worlds: Antivirus (as well as anti spyware) and a system that feels just as fast as NOT having antivirus installed. ESET NOD32 3.0 is by far the very best antivirus available. It is truly second to none. It really has no equal! So stop reading the reviews and buy it already! :) I personally guarantee you that you'll like it. Now that I've experienced NOD32, I'm wishing that I bought Smart Security instead. But I just might do that anyway. Yeah, I'm that happy with NOD32! Great job, ESET!!! You have set the standard! And it is quite a high standard!

If you don't mind paying big, think small. Small laptops, camcorders and printers, that is.

Hurricanes, as we've seen, can wreak serious havoc when they strike populated areas. We've never had control over them before, but one researcher thinks they could be broken up with F-4 fighter jets.

In theory, sending in a pair of the jets to do loops around the eye of the hurricane while it's still out over the ocean, creating sonic booms, would break it up before it hits the shore.

Jet fighters flying at supersonic speeds along special trajectories with a hurricane/typhoon at various altitudes would create supersonic booms. In one such embodiment, the trajectories for the supersonic booms of the present invention are counter to the rotational component of the hurricane and/or typhoon being targeted. As such, supersonic booms can be tailored and/or designed to partially and/or fully -negate the basic rotational contribution in a hurricane by slowing down a hurricane's/typhoon's rotation. Additionally, when supersonic booms propagate downward to the surface of the ocean they also destabilize a hurricane's/typhoon's structure by increasing the pressure in the central part of a hurricane's/typhoon's eye.

It's a pretty crazy idea, but I guess it makes sense. It would be pretty amazing to be able to stop any hurricane before it hit shore, saving millions and millions of dollars and who knows how many lives. I can't wait for them to test this out. [Patent via AV Web; Thanks, Jason!]
